The foundations of the USA are rotten. The traditional keepers of the land, the Native Americans, were slaughtered to pave the way for the prosperity of European settlers. Echoes of uncivilised savages and unjust US laws gave the settlers ‘legal rights’ to commit mass genocide.
After vast areas were cleared, the land drenched with the blood of Native Americans had to be sown with the blood, sweat and tears of Africans. The tainted fruits of slave labour, sugar, tobacco and cotton were used to fuel the industrial revolution of the North. Countless millions of Native Americans and Africans have suffered to make the US a superpower today.
The USA is in the arrogant denial phase of their history. Columbus is still venerated while the Natives see him as a symbol of their destruction. George Washington is honoured as the Father of their nation, while African Americans know him as a loathsome slave master. It is ironic that slaves were used to build the awe inspiring White House and the Capitol building, great symbols of freedom … free land and free labour. Little has been done to heal the wounds of the past. The atrocities can never be justified.
The advent of rotten foundations has subjugated African Americans today. The Segregation laws still resonate through the workplaces, hospitals, schools and courts. The people of the US are shrouded with a cloak of patriotism which has rendered the patrons incapable of feeling disgust for their nation.
